In July, RaShaan Allen said he wanted to "win it all" when it came to the national Military Youth of the Year award. Two months later, he has done just that.
Allen, a Fort Knox High School graduate, earned the award from Boys & Girls Clubs of America this month in Washington, D.C. The award recognizes military installation club members who have faced adversity in their lives. Allen won the state competition in May and was named the Midwest region winner in July.
The competitions include interviews with candidates and a speech detailing their struggles. Allen's speech discusses his mother's deployment, not having a father figure in his life, moving eight times in one year and living in Louisiana during Hurricane Katrina. Allen learned he was selected as the winner at the end of his trip at a reception for the six regional winners.
