Four Fort Campbell High School wrestlers placed high enough to qualify for the state tournament over the weekend in the regionals.
The top four competitors in each weight class qualified to compete in the Kentucky High School Athletics Association Tournament in Lexington this Thursday through Saturday, and the Falcons will send four to the AllTech Arena.
Fort Campbell had one individual champion, as Drayton Simmons won the 182-pound division with a pin of Union’s Bryan Carter at 1:59.
The Falcons’ David Sahms (132) and Ki Ryder (160) took runner-up spots in their weight classes. Tim Nikolao took fourth at 220 pounds and qualified for state.
Nick Ringle was fifth in the 126-pound division and will serve as an alternate.
“We wrestled our best, and I cannot complain about it,” said head coach Anthony Shingler. “I am proud to have coached this bunch of kids this season. This week, we have to work hard for three days and get ready for the state tournament this weekend.”
Union County won the first five championship matches on the way to 322.5 points to easily win the title. Christian County (174.5) was second, followed by Ohio County (140), Fort Campbell (133) and University Heights Academy (106).
Host Caldwell County was sixth with 100 points. Trigg County took eighth with 90.5 points and Hopkinsville was ninth with 87.5 points.
