Being a DDESS school board member is a serious responsibility but one that offers significant rewards - the primary reward being the opportunity to actively participate in the process of educating our children.
However, unlike the school boards in the Local Education Authority (LEA), DDESS school boards act purely in an advisory capacity, providing input to the Superintendent and administrators in the areas of fiscal, personnel and educational policies, procedures and programs. By June of 2014, all students will solve mathematical tasks and demonstrate their mathematical thinking and reasoning by using problem-solving strategies as measured by the Problem Solving rubric, Terra Nova 3rd Edition Scholastic Math Inventory.
By June 2014, all students will improve reading comprehension using the strategies matching readers to appropriate text and through use of explicit fluency instruction as measured by age appropriate quarterly assessments including the BAS Reading List (K), the BAS Fluency assessment and rubrics (grades 1–5), the Scholastic Reading Inventory (grades 3-5), and the Terra Nova, 3rd Edition (grades 3-5).
