Fort Rucker Elementary Teacher Selected to Pilot Engineering Adventures

Ms Suzi Hilton, 5th grade teacher at Fort Rucker Elementary, has been selected to pilot an afterschool Engineering program, Engineering Adventures, for the nationally renowned Engineering is Elementary (EiE) company. The EiE Curriculum is the nation's leading engineering curriculum for grades 1 – 5. The EiE curriculum is packed with phenomenal, engaging, project-based engineering activities that inspire students in the areas of engineering and design.To produce great engineering activities for kids, EiE uses a rigorous design cycle that involves field testing, evaluating, and improving lessons and challenges. This process is similar to the engineering design process kids learn about as they use the Engineering Adventures curriculum. Ms Hilton is thrilled to be selected as an active participant in the Engineering Adventures Curriculum Development. It is such an honor to have her afterschool program be a part of this nationwide, research-based, field test.

Fort Rucker Elementary School was selected as a DoDEA STEM school in the school year 12-13. The DoDEA STEM initiative is an educational program designed to provide students with opportunities to be successful in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The purpose is to ignite the passion of students to pursue education and careers in these areas.

Ms Hilton helped further the STEM initiative at FRES by starting the afterschool FRES Engineers Club for grades 4-6. The Engineers club was such a success that Ft Rucker Elementary added a Jr Engineers club for grades 2-3. Ms Hilton's program was selected as an EiE pilot based on her tremendous contributions to STEM and by her tremendous depth of knowledge in the field.
