About Our School

FRPS building

The Fort Rucker Primary School, which houses grades Pre-K through first was constructed in 1973. Recent renovations include upgraded playground equipment with new play surfaces and re-tiled gym and cafeteria floors. The DoDEA Safe Schools initiatives have provided increased security with new external and internal key-less access and motion sensors in all hallways.

The Fort Rucker Elementary and Primary Schools are Department of Defense Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DoD DDESS). In the Fall of 2002, the Fort Rucker schools were consolidated with Fort Benning schools. In 2003, Fort Rucker became a part of the Georgia/Alabama District, which encompasses Fort Rucker, Fort Benning, and Maxwell Air Force Base.

The teaching staff at FRPS is comprised of highly qualified teachers. Teachers have a 55-minute planning period and a duty-free lunch each day. There are 190 contract days of which ten (10) are professional development. Staff development days are also incorporated into the weekly calendar through an early release day. Professional development, teacher workshops, colleague collaboration and faculty meetings take place during this time.

The school year is based on a modified year-round academic calendar. This includes an extended break in the fall and spring. The students attend school for 180 days.
