Principal's Corner

Dear Maxwell Elementary/Middle School Stakeholders,

As we start school year 2014 2015, let me reiterate what a wonderful community of learners and future leaders we have here at MEMS.  Our desire as a staff is to provide each student with a 21st Century educational experience and to cater to the whole child. By a 21st Century Education, we mean project-based learning, hands-on learning, flexible grouping based on assessment for learning, cooperative learning, student inquiry-based learning, and varied technology integrated into instruction.

With help from our parents and community, we will continue to move toward a focus on active rather than passive learning with a greater emphasis on deep learning and understanding for our students. As we do those things, we will notice an increased responsibility and accountability on the part of the students and a true desire by them to be engaged in the learning process.

My door is always open except when it is necessary for it to be closed for conferencing.  As always, my desires are to foster positive relationships with parents and respond to your concerns. Even with the several changes in leadership of the past, we will carry on together to do what is best for our students. We will do "Whatever it Takes" to provide our students with a 21st Century Education.

Let us soar to new heights,

Dr. Ronald J. Knight Jr.
