Principal's Corner

Welcome Message

Welcome to Maxwell Elementary/Middle School (MEMS), home of the Eagles!

It is an honor to be at MEMS and to be able to work with your children.  While I have met many of you, I look forward to meeting and working with all of our stakeholders.  We have also had many new teachers join us this year.  Please take some time to meet and welcome them to MEMS.

As many of you know, I have relocated my family to the area from Okinawa.  After nearly twenty years overseas, we are very happy and excited to integrate into a community.  Because we intend to be here for an extended period of time, my professional goals for the school will be for both short-term and long-term growth.  Our leadership team will be focusing on organizational and academic goals.  Ultimately, the continuous school improvement (CSI) process is about improving every aspect of the school.

Although the year is just beginning, there are many exciting things happening at MEMS.  We have begun the implementation of the College and Career Ready Standards for Mathematical practice.  We will have opportunities as a community to look at how these new standards will benefit your children.  You will also hear a lot about collaboration this year, as we strive to fully implement Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).  Teachers now have dedicated time each morning to collaboratively develop common pacing, to participate in professional training, to look at student work and to share best practices.  In addition to the positive changes that will occur, we will continue with many of the great things that MEMS has traditionally offered:  NJHS, MS Athletics, LEGO robotics team, extra-curricular clubs, and more.

I truly appreciate the warm welcome that I have received from the Maxwell community.  We have dedicated teachers and extremely supportive parents, volunteers, PTA, School Board, and Command.  Your contributions will continue to make Maxwell Elementary/Middle School a great school!
