LHS DevilPUPs Have Award-Winning Year
Since School Year 1997/1998, Lejeune High School Athletics (aboard Camp Lejeune, NC) has not been awarded the prestigious Coastal Plains 1A Wells Fargo Conference Cup trophy. But this year, they pulled it off! This respected honor is given to schools with the "best overall interscholastic athletic performances," (NCHSAA website), and the DevilPUPs won it for the entire overall athletic year. The LHS DevilPUPs are overjoyed with this impressive award. But it doesn't stop there. The Lejeune HS Athletic program has had a remarkable year all around.
The fall sports season brought a Coastal Plains 1A Conference Championship placement for the PUPs in Varsity Football and a Runner-Up award for Regional 1A. The PUPs brought home a 2nd Place Conference trophy in Tennis, losing in the second round of the dual team's State Playoffs and sending 5 individuals players to Regionals. In Women's Cross Country, the LadyPUPs also placed 2nd at Conference and 5th in Regionals, sending 3 individuals to states. Men's Cross Country wasn't far behind, placing 3rd at Conference, 6th in Regionals, and sent 2 individuals to states. Boys' Soccer brought home a 2nd Place Conference trophy, but unfortunately lost in the second round of State Playoffs. The LadyPUP Cheerleaders won an honorable 2nd placement at Conference and our Girls' Volleyball team came in 4th Place at Conference.
The spring season ended with three Conference Champion placements: Golf (with a Regional 1A Runner-Up and the entire team qualified for States), and Girls' and Boys' Track. The Girls' team went on to become Regional 1A Champions and sent 10 girls to States, while 11 boys qualified for States. The PUPs' Baseball team was 5th Place in Conference but lost in the first round of State Playoffs. Girls' Soccer LadyPUPs didn't have a Conference play but made it to the third round of State Playoffs.
And then, of course, the big win…the Coastal Plains 1A Wells Fargo Conference Cup Win! Way to go, Lejeune athletes, coaches, parents, & community! We look forward to next year!
