Bowley Elementary hosted a PTA sponsored Science Festival as a kick-off for STEAM Week activities. The PTA was awarded the UNC Chancellor Thorp Science Grant. This grant provided materials for twelve hands-on science activities for all students in grades PK-5th. Two schools in Cumberland, County, NC were awarded this grant. Bowley is the first DoDEA-DDESS school to have the honor of hosting this event.
The festival was held in conjunction with the monthly Fun Family Night, which included a spaghetti dinner and book fair, drawing over nearly 300 students, parents, and community.
To complement the hands-on activities provided by the grant, the district's Star Lab, inflatable planetarium, added to the evening's science exploration. The enthusiastic engagement in events such as finger printing and parachute and rocket making by Bowley families was evidence of a successful evening of science fun.
