About Our School

Randall David Shughart Elementary School is located at Fort Bragg, North Carolina under the direction of Dr. Carolyn Carr, Principal.

Students who are enrolled at Shughart Elementary School are dependents of military personnel at Fort Bragg, and the school is funded by the Department of Defense. Shughart Elementary is one of 11 schools in the NC: Ft. Bragg Department of Defense Domestic Dependents' Elementary and Secondary Schools (DoD DDESS). NC: Ft. Bragg DDESS is under the direction of Dr. Emily Marsh, Superintendent and follows the directives, curricula, and guidelines from the umbrella organization of DoDEA (Department of Defense Education Activity). It is one of 11 schools located at Fort Bragg and teaches students in Pre-K thru 5th grade. 

Shughart Elementary is a neighborhood school and most students walk.

Our school is named in honor of Sergeant First Class Randall D. Shughart, United States Army Medal of Honor recipient.

Sergeant First Class Shughart distinguished himself by actions above and beyond the call of duty on 3 October 1993, while serving as a Sniper Team Member, Operations Command with Task Force Ranger in Mogadishu, Somalia.
