Cuadrado Named Assistant Superintendent for New York/Virginia/Puerto Rico District

PEACHTREE CITY, GA — May 19, 2014 — Dr. Elizabeth Middlemiss, Interim Director for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS)-Cuba, announced today that Dr. Donato Cuadrado has been named Assistant Superintendent for the New York, Virginia, Puerto Rico District (NY/VA/PR), with a duty station at Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico. Mrs. Helen Balilo will remain as an assistant superintendent; however, her duty station will be at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Va.
Dr. Cuadrado has been in education for 28 years and joined DoDEA in 1993. He has served as the Ramey Principal since 2010. Previously he served as Ramey's assistant principal. Before becoming an administrator, he taught grades first through twelve, including Advanced Placement courses. He taught at the former Roosevelt Roads Middle and High School, at Ramey School, and at the Ft. Buchanan schools. He got his start teaching with the Puerto Rico public schools, later becoming a District English Zone Supervisor. He has been named district teacher of the year 3 different times, including one as DoDEA District Teacher of the Year. He has received a U.S. Presidential Scholars Program Teacher Recognition Award and a Special Congressional Recognition for Outstanding and Invaluable Service to the Community.
"The addition of Dr. Cuadrado to our team of senior leaders in the district brings a wealth of organizational expertise, caring and commitment to our team," said NY/VA/PR District Superintendent Michael Gould. "Dr. Cuadrado' s transition from principal of Ramey School to the Assistant Superintendent position will occur in early June following the conclusion of the school year at Ramey."
As an administrator at Ramey School, Dr. Cuadrado increased academic achievement for three consecutive years based on standardized tests and College Board assessment results. He led his school through a very successful AdvancEd accreditation process. He established partnerships with the U.S. Coast Guard, Engineering and Mathematics Department of the University of Puerto Rico, Kutztown University, and the U.S. Army Reserve to enhance academics at Ramey School.
Dr. Cuadrado earned his Bachelor's of Art Degree in Elementary and Secondary Education, and his Master's of Art Degree in Linguistics, both from the University of Puerto Rico. He earned his Doctorate in Educational Administration in 2004 from the InterAmerican University in Puerto Rico. Dr. Cuadrado and his wife, Oly, currently reside in Aguadilla.
