PEACHTREE CITY, GA — January 16, 2014 — Dr. Elizabeth Middlemiss, Interim Director for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS)-Cuba, announced today that Dr. Ron Knight has been named principal of Maxwell AFB Elementary and Middle School, at Maxwell AFB, Ala., in the Georgia/Alabama District.
Dr. Knight is no stranger to the GA/AL District. He joined DoDEA in 2012 when he was named principal of Dexter Elementary School at Fort Benning, Ga. He came to DoDEA from the Killeen (Texas) Independent School District where he was principal of Maxdale Elementary School. As an educator, Dr. Knight has served the children of the military as an educational assistant, teacher, curriculum instructional specialist, assistant principal and principal. He has been a successful administrator since 2008. He served in the U.S. Army and his father retired from the U.S. Air Force.

"His philosophy is to interact and engage all stakeholders in discussions in order to establish a shared set of beliefs, vision and mission that promotes high student achievement and a safe and nurturing environment for the school family."
Dr. Knight earned his Bachelor's of Science degree in Liberal Studies from Excelsior University, Albany, N.Y.; his Master's in Educational Administration from Tarleton State University – Central Texas, in Killeen; and his Doctorate of Educational Administration from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Belton, Texas.
He and his wife, Maritess, have a daughter Marikit and son Jonathan.
