 Breakfast and lunch are served daily in the Fort Jackson schools.

Commercial Foods

During the meal service in the cafeteria the distribution of commercial foods in their advertised containers (i.e., Subway, McDonald's, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Popeye's, etc.) is prohibited. Foods may stay in their wrapping;however they must be put in a noncommercial container or bag.  In addition, students may only eat the food provided to them through the school food service program or the food provided to them from their parents/sponsors. Food may not be brought into the cafeteria to share with a child's classmates or other children. This prohibits the practice of bringing cupcakes or other food items into the cafeteria during meal service to share with students to celebrate a student's birthday or other celebrations.

Food Allergies

Food Allergies are serious health risks. Please coordinate with the respective school nurse and provide a physician's slip explaining the food allergies your child may have, so that appropriate accommodations can be made.

School Meal Accounts and Payment Information

We ask that you fund your child's meal account at least a week in advance.  You may make payments:

  • Online through the K12PaymentCenter.com website.  See the district food service page for more information on online payments.
  • Parent/Guardian visiting the Cash Clerk's office, located in the cafeteria, from 8:30 - 10:00 AM Monday through Friday
  • Send payment to school with your child in an envelope.  The front of the envelope should be labeled with: Student's Name, Teacher's Name, Amount Enclosed.

If a child is absent or brings a meal from home, credit is maintained for those days.  Although a student may normally bring lunch from home, it is a good idea to have a little money deposited in the school meal account for an emergency breakfast and/or lunch.  Money that is not used at the end of the school year will be carried forward to the next school year.  If your child is moving to a different school on Fort Stewart, his or her account balance will travel with him or her. 

Returned Checks

In the event the parent pays in advance with a check on an account that has insufficient funds, the school will notify the parent by letter and phone call. A $10.00 service charge will be added to the check total. The parent/sponsor will make cash payment to the Cash Clerk's Office.  Further checks will be accepted only if the delinquent check and service charge are paid within 30 days of parent notification.

Charging Meals

Charging meals must be kept to a minimum and used as a last resort only. The following policy will be used for student charges:

  1. Students will be allowed to charge meals if they do not have funds to pay for their meals.  Children will not be allowed to charge snacks.
    Note:  If you do not want your child to charge meals, you must provide written notification to the cafeteria.
  2. The cashier will send a written notification to parents when the child's account reaches a negative balance. There after, letters are sent home weekly through the child's teacher.
  3. The cashier will notify the Food Service Director if the charges are not paid within 30 days.  Charges not paid within 30 days of the first notification, will be subject to payroll deduction.
  4. The Food Service Director will initiate payroll deduction on all accounts referred by the cashier. There is a $35 service charge assessed on all collections.
    Note:  A payroll deduction cannot be reversed once it is initiated. 
  5. Unpaid cafeteria balances will be carried forward to the next school year.  If your child moves to a different school on Fort Stewart, the balance will travel with them.

Free and Reduced Price Meals

Families who apply and are qualified receive free or reduced price meals.

  • Please notify the Child Nutrition Program if you have a child beginning school this year whose sibling was in the Free/Reduced Lunch Program last year.
  • Free/Reduced Meal Applications for those children who were in the system last year must be renewed each year within the first thirty (30) calendar days of the school year.

To Apply for Free and Reduced Price Meals:

  1. Free/Reduced meal application packets will be sent home with students on the first day of school or you may print the application:  Free and Reduced Lunch Application
  2. Complete and sign the application.
  3. Return the signed application to the Cash Clerk's office Monday through Thursday 8:30 - 10:00 a.m.
