Students in Dr. E.'s class recently constructed a model cell made entirely with edible candies. They had just completed a study of cells and now it was time to create a model using their knowledge to "see" what a cell looks like and how its parts (organelles) function with each other.
Students had to choose a partner and decide upon which type of cell they would create (plant or animal). In their activity they created and a cell with common candies after they created a paper sketch of their cell. At the end of their creation they needed to have a photo taken, demonstrating their accomplishment.
To complete their work they then needed to answer some questions including:
1. Why could a cell be called "the functional unit of life?"
2. In your opinion, what organelle is the most important part of a cell?
3. How would you improve this lesson?
Naturally once they concluded the lesson they choose to eat the organelles.
