COURSE TITLE: Rhythmics-Dance S

COURSE LENGTH: 18 weeks
Major Concepts/Content: This elective course can be a semester or year-long course and provides a variety of opportunities for students to demonstrate knowledge and competency in motor skills, rhythmic movement patterns and creativity — expressive strategies needed to synchronize movement with rhythmic structure. Students will achieve a level of physical fitness for health and dance performance and demonstrate knowledge of fitness concepts, principles and strategies
Major Instructional Activities: This course is designed to give students the opportunity to learn rhythmic and dance concepts as conditioning techniques for obtaining optimal physical fitness. Students will benefit from comprehensive stretching, strengthening and cardiorespiratory endurance activities. Course content is delivered primarily through physical fitness activity sessions. Students will be empowered to develop fitness plans.
Major Evaluative Techniques: Heart rate monitors are consistently used to enable students to demonstrate their conditioning levels. Heart rate data will be recorded, analyzed and utilized to modify fitness programs. Support equipment consists of mats, barbells, elastic resistance bands, music tapes or CD's, CD/cassette deck player and speakers, streamers and bamboo poles.
