Major Concepts/Content: The Marine Corps JROTC IV course focuses entirely on the application of all previously learned leadership training and sub-course content. The students serve in the highest leadership billets in the MCJROTC program and under the guidance of the JROTC Instructor staff, serve as assistant instructors in the presentation of specified periods of instruction, inspections, and the lower level Marine Corps JROTC courses. The students are placed in charge of the planning, training of students for an assigned task, and team organization required to effectively accomplish community service support requests, JROTC program inspections, and special events. They form the student staff and ensure the proper maintenance of the program’s student administrative, supply, and logistical records. Along with serving as positive role models of effective leadership and management skills Marine Corps JROTC IV students receive instruction in the following sub-courses:
- Conflict Resolution
- Resume Writing
- Selective Service System
- Opportunities in Public Service
- Marine Corps and National Defense Organization, Roles and Missions
- Military History (Viet Nam – Present)
- Community Service
- Vocabulary development
Major Instructional Activities: Instructional activities will be conducted in a general classroom setting, the media center, computer lab, and the community environment. Instructors serve as positive role models and facilitators of student learning and development of critical thinking skills in the context of a safe and positive learning environment that fosters individual growth, mutual respect and personal accountability. Educational activities will be varied and be attuned to student cultural diversity and multiple intelligences. Techniques and strategies include; oral presentations by students, small group discussions, student working groups, student projects, group and individual research projects, guest lecturers, Socratic seminars, dramatizations, role playing, and participation in school/ community support projects.
Major Evaluative Techniques: In addition to evaluation techniques for Marine Corps JROTC I, II, and III students, the Marine Corps JROTC students are also evaluated using various rubrics to determine the effectiveness of assistant instructor duties, assistant inspectors, performance on Marine Corps Program Inspections, program administrative/logistical record keeping, and the successful accomplishment of school/community service support requests.
Course Objectives: In addition to the Marine Corp JROTC I, II, and III curriculum objectives, Marine Corps JROTC IV students should be able to assume the highest leadership billets in the program. The should also effectively accomplish the duties and responsibilities of the program’s student staff, and serve as positive role models of effective leaders and managers within the program.
