Last season, the Fort Knox High School cross-country team sent a full team to the Class A State Meet for the first time in nine years. This year, the Eagles are hungry to do even more. The boys and girls cross-country teams start their season Saturday, as they begin the process of duplicating last season’s success.

Two boys (juniors Austin Martineau and Michael Haddix) and three girls (juniors Vanessa Jackson, Jalisa Fleisher and freshman Nicole Kubica) return for the Eagles, leading a group of numerous new runners. Right now, 13 girls and 11 boys are listed on the rosters.

“The experience of running in state will help us push others to try to get up to that level,” Martineau said. “We’re trying to get people to exceed their limits. We know they can do it, they just need to show it.”
