Gordon Elementary hosted a math curriculum night Oct. 26.  The theme was “Calculation Carnival,” which coincided with the opening of the North Carolina State Fair.  Teachers prepared math games and hands-on activities for families to enjoy.  The focus of the evening was unit two of DoDEA’s College and Career Readiness Standards for Math and a variety of activities were available representing what students were learning in their classrooms. Additionally, teachers prepared three tiers of activities (K-2, 3-4 and 5) so that visitors could participate in age-appropriate events. Teachers also posted their “I Can” statements for Unit 2 so parents would understand the expectations of students by the end of the unit in the classroom. Curriculum Carnival was held in conjunction with a PTA Book fair and Red Ribbon Week activities. Many students and teachers dressed as their favorite book character to support the Red Ribbon Week idea of “I can be anybody when I read.”
