Illesheim Elementary School (IES) is located near the town of Bad Windsheim, which is nestled in a quaint area of Middle Franconia. This region of Bavaria is known for its lush farms, endless rolling hills, as well as offering a multitude of outdoor opportunities. To add to this, it is a popular spa & retreat destination in Germany. IES is part of the Bavaria School District and a member of the USAG Ansbach complex. Its location within the housing area on base allows many of the students to walk to school. We also have a number of students living in the surrounding German community who are transported to IES by bus.
IES services grades Sure Start through sixth. We also have one PSCD program. The student population averages from 248 to 278 for any given year. Each grade may have one to two teachers per level and at times there are multi-age classes. Our students are given additional educational opportunities via classes, such as Host Nation, Physical Education, Art and Music. These help to enrich our overall academic program. Our instructional specialists provide additional support in the areas of Gifted, Enrichment, Technology, Literacy, READ 180, Media Center, Special Education Services, Speech and Language, as well as English as a Second Language (ESL).IES has a full time nurse, counselor and an itinerant school psychologist who works with students, teachers, and parents.
Our school offers a variety of clubs, programs, and functions to foster student creativity and stimulate diverse learning.Students have the opportunity to participate in afterschool extracurricular activities, such as Drama, German, Guitar, Beginning & Intermediate Ukulele, Krafty KIDZ, Health & Fitness, STEM, Choir Grades 2 & 3, Homework Club, and Student Council.
All students participate in the Hoedown Dance, Veterans Day assembly, Winter Celebration performance, and the Multicultural Spring Dance program.
We want all of our students to feel welcome upon arrival. New students are given a tour of the school by fellow students and the school counselor. IES has adopted "Character Counts", a character building framework that focuses on teaching ethical values. The ethical values are grouped into six pillars of character: respect, trustworthiness, fairness, responsibility, caring and citizenship. Each month a class introduces a character trait to the student body. A monthly luncheon is held for selected students who have gone above and beyond in their demonstration of the featured trait. Parents are invited to come and have lunch with their children during the Character Counts luncheon.
Our school motto, "Striving to Learn, Learning to Caring with Pride", encompasses our belief that through our school's engaging and empowering instruction, we can foster the growth and commitment that will result in academic and global success for all IES students.
