Update from the DoDEA Director on DoDEA School Operations in Puerto Rico
The island of Puerto Rico sustained extensive damage as a result of Hurricane Maria. Many of you have relatives and friends that were impacted by the hurricane and I wanted to share with you what we can at this point regarding recovery efforts as they relate to our DoDEA personnel and our schools in Puerto Rico.

Message from Dr. Cuadrado, DoDEA Puerto Rico Community Superintendent

DoDEA has completed an operational assessment for all DoDEA schools on Fort Buchanan and U.S. Coast Guard Ramey Base. DoDEA Schools on Fort Buchanan will reopen on Monday, October 16. We have inspected our schools, and they are safe and ready to resume education. DoDEA School on USCG Air Station Borinquen (Ramey) is tentatively scheduled to reopen on Monday, October 23. We are continuing to focus all of our energies and efforts to obtaining resources to provide the necessary power and water services to resume school operations as soon as possible.

We know parents are as concerned about their children's education and emotional well-being as are we. It is our plan and desire to resume normal operations as soon as possible so we can welcome all our students back.

Our entire community has experienced significant turmoil as a result of Hurricane Maria. As with any challenge, the members of our community come together and work as a team to get things done, and this is no exception. We are grateful to those DoDEA and installation community members who are working tirelessly here in Puerto Rico; in our Mid-Atlantic District Office, our DoDEA Americas Region Office; and at DoDEA Headquarters to ensure our school communities are safe and supported.
