What's New from your Mustangs' Principal!

It is time to start thinking about returning to school. The newsletters posted on our page are full of information and highlights of our past year. You will see much information about how teachers use Project Based Learning to integrate our College and Career Ready
Standards .
Irwin challenges students to acquire deeper conceptual knowledge of content standards through project based learning activities integrated throughout the day. Irwin' staff is committed to providing a high quality academic experience, in a 21st Century environment, to prepare all children to be college and career ready. The mission of the entire Irwin Community is to  educate, engage, and empower each student to succeed in a dynamic world through a nurturing and academically challenging environment.

We will have an "Open House" for all students and parents on:
August 24, from 3:30-5:30 pm. You will be able to tour the school and briefly meet your child's teacher. In addition, you will be able to prepay for lunch/ breakfast and check bus schedules.

Welcome Back 2017

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________

April is designated as the Month of the Military Child, underscoring the important role military children play in the armed forces community. We have had an exciting month as we "purpled up" with so many activities. All of these activities were planned to celebrate our children and all the hard work they have put in this year.

  • Our Robotics Team started us out with a "Probots" Showcase Expo. For two days, the Robotics Team presented their projects to the entire school and visitors.   Everyone was amazed at how the students were able to design, build, and program robots, using Lego NXT systems!
  • The 82nd All American Band performed for us as we sang and danced along to so many of our favorite tunes!
  • Our fabulous PTO "purpled us up" with special Irwin t-shirts for all staff and students. The PTO also arranged for the Golden Knights to jump in and perform their air show. Everyone was so excited when the team jumped in with our Mustang Flag!
  • PURPLE UP! We are military kid strong!

As we embrace the future, we are trying to move Irwin to a culture of excellence where we are never satisfied with good, but always striving for greatness.

We will also continue our Project Based Learning (PBL) approach to teaching and learning using our Interrelated and Integrated Model. These integrated units of study will combine our College and Career Ready Standards and curriculum, allowing students to use technology, connect to communities and the real world, and build skills for college, career, and life. Teaching in such a contextual manner promotes collaboration, critical thinking, and knowledge retention among students.

A Welcome Message From Mrs. Breece

Irwin provides a high quality academic environment for all children. The mission of the entire Irwin Community is to prepare our diverse population for success in a dynamic, global society through a nurturing and academically challenging environment. Our vision for our students is: Opening Minds to Lifelong Learning. Our goal is to establish and maintain a school-wide culture conducive to meeting rigorous academic standards through evidence based instruction for all students.

Irwin is a DoDEA 21st Century Jump Start School and this has allowed for extra resources and tools to implement the DoDEA standards with fidelity. Instruction at Irwin emphasizes a student-centered climate tailored to accommodate students' unique learning needs; we do this by providing and teaching students how to access and use collaborative digital resources. Teachers require students to use digital resources to create learning artifacts that incorporate Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) in Project Based Learning (PBL) units of study.

We have a strong home-school partnership with our parents and community partners. The staff is among the best in the Fort Bragg School System and is committed to the success of all students. As we guide our students through a variety of instructional approaches in their daily activities, we strive to create an environment that will encourage them to reach their highest academic potential while fostering emotional, physical, and social development.

Irwin is located in a wonderful community and because of you and your child, it will continue to be a school that exemplifies high standards and inspires academic success.

Yours in Education,

Miriam Breece
