The NMSP is conducted each year by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). This year NMSC named approximately 16,000 Semi-finalists.

Seven DoDEA seniors were selected:

All of the Semi-finalists will have the opportunity to continue in the competition for 8,300 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $34 million beginning in spring 2012. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements in order to proceed to the Finalist level of the competition. Approximately 90 percent of the Semi-finalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and more than half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship and earn the Merit Scholar title.
