Guam is set against a backdrop of beautifully manicured lawns and lush flora vegetation. It also has a very diverse culture that exemplifies the blending of many people from around the world. The Spanish galleons, over 400 years ago, brought to Guam a rich cultural flavor that influenced the lives of not only the local Chamorro people but the surrounding Islands as well. Guam has become a melting pot of many cultures and is rapidly emerging as a cosmopolitan, business and tourism center in the Pacific region.
DDESS Guam schools opened its doors on September 29, 1997 to about 2,500 military dependent children for Kindergarten through 12th grade. Four schools were established on or near a military base. Since the opening of the DDESS Guam in 1997, all the schools are now in new facilities: two news schools, an elementary and middle, at Andersen Air Force Base was completed in July 2001; Guam High School, located on the Hospital Navy Base, was completed in August 2007; and our newest school, McCool elementary/middle school, situated on COMNAVMAR Navy Base, was completed August 2008.
