As of 22 AUG 2014
Dear Parents and Sponsors,
On behalf of the DoDEA Guam District team, we are all looking forward to welcoming your children back on Monday, 25 August for another great school year. However, while our schools and personnel are ready to welcome students on Monday, we have received late notice that the Student Meals Program (SMP) contractor is unable to fulfill its contract. As a result, the standard, USDA-approved SMP will not be available at any of our schools until a suitable replacement contract is in place. Until a new, long-term SMP contract is awarded, we have contingency plans in place as follows:
- During the week of 25-29 August 2014, a limited selection of à la carte food items and beverages will be available for cash-only purchase. Regrettably, it is not possible at this time to make purchases using the pre-paid option (e.g. K12paymentcenter formerly known as Lunchprepay) or through the Free and Reduced Price School Meals Program. USDA-compliant meals will not be available and accommodating special dietary needs or food allergies will not be possible during this period. Please see attached flyer for menu and pricing information.
- From 2-30 September, basic meals, a wider selection of à la carte food items, and beverages will be available for purchase. Cash-only sales will continue and every effort is being made to have the pre-paid option restored within this timeframe. However, purchases through the Free and Reduced Price School Meals Program still will not be possible during this time. USDA-compliant meals also will not be available. Accommodating special dietary needs or food allergies may remain very difficult during this period. Menu and pricing information will be provided soon.
- If current plans hold, beginning on 1 October 2014, the standard SMP will be back in place. All payment options will be accepted including pre-paid accounts and the Free and Reduced Price School Meals Program. Menu and pricing information will be provided.
Our contingency plans may change and we will keep you apprised. Initially, you may wish to pack a lunch with a drink for your child that does not require refrigeration (no glass containers). A packed lunch may also be the best temporary option for those with food allergies or special dietary needs. More information about Healthy Brown Bag Lunches may be found on the DoDEA Wellness page.
We sincerely regret any inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work through this highly unusual situation. We will provide an update by Thurs., 28 August via email, the One Call Now notification system, command information, and social media.
