May 28, 2010 — Dr. Irby Miller, DoDDS Korea District Superintendent, is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Catherine Yurica as the new principal of Seoul American Elementary School. Dr. Catherine Yurica is an accomplished educator with a
proven record in educational leadership. Dr. Yurica’s areas of expertise lie in reading, curriculum and instruction. She
also has extensive experience in leading vibrant learning communities. Dr. Yurica is actively involved with developing strong educational partnerships. An accomplishment that Dr. Yurica is proud of is creating environments that foster
excellence within multicultural populations and producing settings that help all students succeed.
Dr. Yurica’s educational and working background includes a PhD in Curriculum from UCLA, MS Ed. in Reading from the University of Wisconsin, and a B.S. in Elementary Education from Wheaton College. Her educational work
experience includes; serving concurrently as the principal at Cornerstone Academy and as the Director, Education Consultants of the Southbay Regional ISP Curriculum Coordinator in California. She has been an administrator of a reading center at Badger High Unified School District in Wisconsin, director of a Basic Skills Center at Bonita Unified Schools in California, and a reading specialist and member of the District Planning Committee for Jefferson County Schools in Colorado. Most recently she has served as a Professor with Master’s College for Teacher Education.
A published author of Beginning to Read children’s books, Dr. Yurica is married to her husband Keith. Dr. Yurica will arrive in August to begin her new responsibilities at Seoul American Elementary School.
