CAREER

The Virtual High School Counseling Program supports a career awareness domain. Through webcasts and webinar sessions, students enrolled in the Virtual High School have access to college representatives and military recruiters on a regular basis who provide information about college, work, and military opportunities. The content standards under this domain include:

 

Standard D
Students will acquire the self-knowledge necessary to make informed career decisions.

Standard E
Students will understand the relationship between educational achievement and career development.

Standard F
Students will employ career management strategies to achieve future career success and satisfaction.

 

Following are useful online resources to help students as they explore career options:

ASVAB Career Exploration

This interactive site for kids and parents and includes interest surveys, career path exploration, ASVAB
study guides, and more. Students can access their ASVAB scores after they've taken the test and analyze the results to help pinpoint their talents. The system will even suggest career paths (in and

    • College Board Online  Comprehensive college information site. College Board Online includes College Board tests, programs, and online registration, a Test Question of the Day, SAT preparation, a searchable database of colleges, financial aid information (including a financial aid calculator), career planning information, a fee-based essay evaluation service, online shopping and more.     • ETS Net   The Educational Testing Service Network These are the folks that write the SAT I: Reasoning Test, SAT II: Subject Tests, AP, GRE, CLEP, etc. ETS Net provides sample test questions, test preparation, and test registration. It also contains information on college planning, financial aid, and links to college and university sites.
    • Kaplan Test Prep   SAT, ACT, and other test preparation, admissions consulting, and other services to help you prepare for college.
    • Revolution Prep  Revolution Prep offers a variety of live and online programs to help students prepare for the SAT and ACT exams.
    • Princeton Review Online This extensive college and career information site includes data as to colleges, scholarships, online admissions, paying for college, and test preparation for SAT I and II and ACT.
    • Peterson's Education Center  Peterson's includes information about educational programs at all levels and provides searchable databases of colleges and academic programs including test prep and financial aid. Similar in content to College Board Online.
    • Students.gov  Assists prospective college students, their families, and guidance counselors in planning for college, applying for admission and aid, as well as receiving and repaying student loans.

      Scholarship Program for dependents of civilian federal employees.
    • Fastweb
      Students may register for scholarship information at Fastweb, one of the Internet's largest free scholarship search sites. FastWeb's scholarship search will automatically match available scholarships to the student's profile and eligibility requirements. For many awards students can apply right online. FastWeb will email updates to keep students posted as new scholarships become available. FastWeb advises students about scholarship opportunities tailored to them. All for free!!
