1999-2000
was more than just another school yearit was the dawning of a new millennium.
At times of such historical milestones, our thoughts often turn to the role
of change in our lives. We review past accomplishments while refining our aspirations
for the future. The 1999-2000 Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA)
Annual Report provides the information about our schools that creates a context
for understanding our achievements as well as a baseline for the development
of higher goals for the coming years. It is a profile of the change and continual
improvement that are critical to the preparation of our students for the opportunities
and challenges they will encounter as they and the millennium advance.
Part
of my commitment as Director, and DoDEAs charge as an activity of the
Department of Defense, is to make all aspects of our operations accessible to
the public. We want the military commands and the families we serve to know
how we use our resources and how successful we are in achieving the ever more
rigorous goals we set for our educators and students.
DoDEA
has a cadre of exceptional educators who, guided by our community Strategic
Plan, work diligently to optimize learning and the potential for the future
success of all our students. I invite you to read this report to learn more
about our students performance and about the distribution of the human
and material resources that make that work possible.
