DoDEA Pacific Director Dr. Linda Curtis has named Dr. Judith Allen as the superintendent for the DoDEA Pacific West District.

Allen is a career educator with extensive teaching and administrative experience. She joined DoDEA more than 30 years ago as a classroom teacher in Europe and went on to hold a number of positions of progressive responsibility before being selected as the assistant superintendent for the DoDEA Pacific West District in 2011.

"Dr. Allen is a strong, effective leader who brings a wealth of experience to the DoDEA Pacific West District," said Curtis.

Allen earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, and a master's in public administration from Troy State University. She received her doctorate in educational leadership from the University Of Nevada-Reno.

With a portfolio of 12 schools and more than 5,000 students, the DoDEA Korea District's approximately 650 professional educators and support personnel are responsible for delivering high-quality preK-12 educational programs to military communities across the Korean peninsula.

Allen inherits a rapidly-changing school district already working with military planners to relocate and consolidate several schools as part of a strategic multi-year restationing of U.S. military personnel south of Seoul.

In reflecting on her selection, Allen said the DoDEA Pacific West District has outstanding students, teachers, and parents, and that she looks forward to working with all stakeholders during this period of transformation and change, "There are many challenges out there but the journey will be all the better as we work as a team, alongside our military partners, to do what is best for our students. Their success is our success."

Allen is very familiar with the unique challenges and opportunities associated with military life. She was married to an Air Force veteran and spent more than two decades transitioning with her family between military installations in Europe, the Pacific, and the U.S. She is also the mother of three children—one of whom recently retired from the U.S. Air Force—and has five grandchildren.

In recent years, the DoDEA Korea District developed special initiatives in continuous school improvement or CSI; Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math or STEM; student mentorship programs; and Scholastic Aptitude Test preparation. The district is also home to two U.S. Department of Education National Blue Ribbon Schools: CT Joy Elementary School (2012) and Seoul American Middle School (2013).
