Frank E. Roehl has been the Superintendent of Schools for the DoDEA Europe West District consisting of 18 schools located in the United Kingdom, the Benelux countries, and German Eifel area since September, 2016. Prior leadership positions include Superintendent of the Isles and Heidelberg Districts, assistant superintendent of the Bavaria District, assistant superintendent and acting superintendent for the Heidelberg District, DoDEA Middle Level Coordinator, and a principal, assistant principal, classroom teacher and coach at elementary through high school levels with assignments in Germany and Turkey.
Mr. Roehl is a "military brat," attending 13 different schools in grades K-12 and experiencing two unaccompanied tours while his father served in Korea and Vietnam. He served as a US Army commissioned field artillery officer on active duty and in the reserve forces in Germany prior to and during his teaching career. He earned his undergraduate degree in education at the University of Nebraska and his master's degree in educational administration from Boston University.
Mr. Roehl's wife, Margy, is a retired DoDEA teacher and Information Specialist. Together, they raised two children who attended DoDEA schools K-12. Brian is working as a government civilian employee at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Aileen, recently with the Paul Taylor Dance Company in New York City, is in Norfolk, VA with her Navy helicopter pilot husband.
Mr. Roehl's focus is on providing the leadership to advance student achievement, involve parents in the educational process of their children, facilitate a motivated teaching and district staff, and supporting the DoDEA mission serving the US Military and DoD Civilians serving in Europe.
