In August 2012, Mr. Mike Thompson assumed the position of Superintendent of the DoDEA Pacific South District after serving for the past six years as the Superintendent of the Bavaria District. Prior to that time, he served as the Chief of Staff and Assistant Superintendent for the Bavaria District. As a seasoned and accomplished educator, he brings a rich background of experience and expertise to the Okinawa District.
Mr. Thompson has held school level administrative positions in DoDEA as principal at Hohenfels High School and as principal at Nuernberg High School. Prior to these assignments, he was the Assistant Principal at Osterholz-Sharmbeck High School in Northern Germany. For the four years prior to that he was on the teaching staff at Osterholz-Scharmbeck.
In addition to serving as an administrator and educator in DoDEA schools, Mr. Thompson has held teaching and administration positions at Roy High School, Laurel Middle School, White Sulphur Springs High School, Butte Central High School and Dawson County High School, all in the state of Montana, where he was recognized as Coach of the Year in Women's Basketball and also as the State Athletic Director of the Year.
Mr. Thompson's received his undergraduate degree from Western Montana College and his Master's degree in Educational Administration from Western Montana College of the University of Montana.
He is a member of Phi Delta Kappa (PDK), Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), and the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).
