One of the most rewarding benefits of being a part of the Department of Defense schools is the opportunity to participate in the cultural events of the communities in which we serve. An excellent example of this was during the Pacific Area Assistant Principals' Conference in Tokyo, Japan. Mr. Chimera Manjiro, a renown Kabuki actor, presented his "Kabuki for Everyone" performance for the attendees of the conference. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Three apprentices assisted Manjirosan in his presentation. There is an active group of young actors seeking entry into the Kabuki Theater. The clothing worn during a Kabuki play can weigh as much as 40 pounds. The handmade clothing is very expensive, costing over $150,000 for the coat. All of the garments used in the Kabuki presentation are handmade. |

| Very
few Americans have had the opportunity to see behind the scenes of the Kabuki
theater. Teaching in the Department of Defense schools is probably one of
the most demanding positions that any professional educator could hold.
But the rewards are commensurate with the demands. |
