IMMEDIATE RELEASE DoDEA Students Selected for U.S. Senate Youth Program ARLINGTON, VA - DoDEA is pleased to confirm that Mark Norsworthy of Lakenheath (United Kingdom) High School and Brienna Carroll of Pusan (Korea) America High School are delegates to the 2005 United States Senate Youth Program, Sponsored by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation to be held in Washington D.C. from February 26 – March 5, 2005. Mark and Brienna will join with the 104 student delegates selected from high schools around the country to be immersed in Washington activities including visits to the Senate, the House of Representatives, the Supreme Court, the Pentagon and the Smithsonian museums. Delegates will hear major policy presentations by senators, cabinet members, and other Washington insiders. The military services provide specially selected men and women to serve as escorts for the student delegates while in Washington. Mark Norsworthy, named a National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalist, is active in track and field sports and martial arts. Mark was named DoDDS-Europe Technology student in 2004 and is a member of the National Honor Society and the Model United Nations. Mark is applying to the Early Action Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and plans to pursue a doctoral program in physics. Mark's goal is to become a Mission Specialist astronaut for NASA. Brienna Carroll is president of the Honor Society and a member of the Model United Nations team. Brienna has captained the soccer, cross-country, and basketball teams at her school in Korea. She is involved in JROTC and is the Company Commander. Her career goals include joining the Army and pursuing a master's degree in education. She also plans to become a professional soccer player. If for any reason one of the two selected delegates can not participate in the program, two alternate delegates have been selected. Those alternates are Carlos German Sanchez from Ansbach (Germany) High School and Brian Christopher Mueller from Heidelberg (Germany) American High School. This Release in Acrobat Format (.pdf) ### |
