Dr. Archie W. Bates
Selected as the
DoDEA 2002 Superintendent of the Year

ARLINGTON, VA—Dr. Archie W. Bates, the current district superintendent of the Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS) Kaiserslautern District, has been selected to represent the Department of Defense Education Activity as its 2002 Superintendent of the Year. Superintendent of the Year is an annual program sponsored by the American Association of School Administrators.

      Dr. Bates has been the superintendent of the Kaiserslautern District since February 1999. He previously held positions as an assistant superintendent in the DoDDS Okinawa District, and as a teacher and school administrator. Dr. Bates has worked in the DoDDS system since 1976.
