Hello. I've sent out a formal written message to the DoDEA community on the anniversary of September 11, as we commemorate the terrible events of that day. I wanted to take a minute to speak directly to you. I was at Bitburg when the events took place and saw firsthand the way everyone in the DoDEA community comes together at a time of tragedy and loss. It was an extraordinary experience. Over the course of the year, we were asked to take significant cuts in our budget to support the war effort. As difficult as that was, it wasn’t a sacrifice. It was one small way we could contribute to the mission. Perhaps the greatest way we can contribute is to continue doing what we have always done best – providing the highest quality education possible to children of our military. To that end I will do my best to see that all available resources reach our schools as quickly as possible this school year.

Many say we were forever changed by September 11. Those events changed our history, but not our people. I will never think about that date or its tragic events without a terrible sense of sadness and I will never forget the strength and sense of community that guided us at Bitburg without feeling tremendous pride. As Americans, we've never had greater reason to pull together. As DoDEA employees, we've never had more reason to be proud of what we do and the families we serve.
