Students - Showcase

  • Honors Music Festival
Top student musicians from 11 DoDDS-P high schools shared their musical talents in band and chorus in a culminating concert at the 2002 Honors Music Festival at Kadena High School, Kadena, Okinawa in April. The 130 student participants in the festival were selected from over 500 students by high school music directors and members of the 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force Band. Students were chosen to participate based on the selections they recorded last December as part of preparation for the festival. During the festival, students had the opportunity to work with different directors, learn from different styles and talents, and blend their voices and instruments with other top student musicians.

  • Art Exhibit.
An exhibit entitled “Drawing on Character,” featuring the work of about 100 American students from area Department of Defense Dependents Schools, was held in Kaiserlautern, Germany, at the city’s Rathaus during the month of March 2002. The Overseas Art Education Association hosted the exhibit which was open to the community. The theme for the exhibit promoted the six pillars of character advanced by DoDDS: caring, respect, fairness, responsibility, trustworthiness, and citizenship. Participants included students from kindergarten through 12th grade. Their artwork varied from computer digitized photos of students, to crayon and lead drawings, to robots.
