Students get close to nature

Because of the close relationship between DDESS districts and their military base authorities, students enjoy exceptional opportunities to explore the natural environment near their schools.

Students at McNair Elementary School at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, are able to study ecology at a community-sponsored nature trail behind their school. Base environmental engineers devote some duty time and many volunteer hours to mentor students as they learn about the beauty of the earth and their responsibility to maintain it.

DDESS school grounds conform to the high standards for all U.S. military facilities. At Marine Corps Base Quantico (above), well-planned foliage at Ashurst Elementary creates a welcome school environment.
