George Yorns:
This is News Plus. A few minutes ago we told you about the Department
of Defense Education Activity's efforts to improve its schools.
DoDEA officials say the varying sizes of their high schools
should be an advantage to bringing a quality education to service
member's children. A symposium for high school administrators
is scheduled for October in Nashville.
Dr. Elizabeth Middlemiss:
This year we're going to be bringing all DoDEA high school principals
together for a work session, where we really look at the optimal
high school program for DoDEA.
Yorns: The
high school principals will look at existing programs, distance
education opportunities, and issues that high school students
experience when their parents move from station to station.
The symposium is just one of several ways DoDEA officials plan
to improve educational opportunities in their schools. Officials
say parents and students can expect to see a greater emphasis
on literacy, improved social studies programs, and more student
assessments, combining to create a better education for children.
Middlemiss: The
bottom line is we're looking at individual student's success.
And I think working together weâll see that this year.
Yorns: Check
out the Department of Defense Education Activity at its website.
There you can learn more about DoDEA programs and find information
for teachers, parents, and students.
