George Yorn: From
the AFRTS News Center in Washington, this is the two-minute report.
Parents, students and teachers now have an easier way to evaluate
the quality of education at their local Department of Defense
schools. For the first time, the Department of Defense Education
Activity, DoDEA, is making the Customer Satisfaction Survey available
online. https://hq-w4.dodea.edu/css/
Dr. Joseph Tafoya: We
were always interested in getting updated information from our
parents and our command and teachers in how we are doing in the
affective area. We have good test results and we have other kinds
of data that will let us know how we are doing educationally,
but we want to know how we are doing in terms of serving our customers.
Yorn: DoDEA director
Dr. Joseph Tafoya says the survey is brief and should take less
than 20 minutes to complete. In just 20 questions, the survey
covers everything from school facilities to use of technology
to school curriculum. Parents who do not have access to the Internet
can contact their local school to get a paper copy of the survey.
Dr. Tafoya says parent input and participation is very important
to the success of Department of Defense schools.
Dr. Tafoya: What parents
say to us is important. What parents communicate to us, what they
believe are the strengths and the areas that we need to do better
in, are important to us. And so I would, as a parent myself at
one point, I always have felt that I needed to get my input, only
if I felt that the decision-makers were going to value that input.
And Im going to value that input.
Yorn: The survey is
being conducted through December 13th. Dr. Tafoya says once the
surveys are completed, the results will be used to help schools
identify areas for improvement. And because the survey is based
on a Gallup poll conducted in the United States, DoDEA schools
will be able to find out how they compare with stateside public
schools. For more information on DoDEAs Customer Satisfaction
Survey, go to their website. Thats the two-minute report.
From Washington, Im George Yorn.
