On September 17, 1787, the U.S. Constitution was signed by thirty-nine courageous men who changed the course of history. The U.S. Constitution is the birthday of our government and every American shares in this legacy of liberty and has a responsibility as citizens to respect and defend the values of our founding fathers and participate in the unfolding story of freedom.
In 2007, President Bush issued a proclamation declaring Constitution Day, Citizenship Day on September 17 and Constitution Week September 14-18, 2009. All Federal, State, and local officials, as well as leaders of civic, social and educational organizations are encouraged to conduct ceremonies and programs that celebrate our Constitution and reaffirm our rights and responsibilities as citizens of our Nation.
The DoDEA staff is asked to use the week of September 14-18 to implement instruction (PK-12) that highlights the Constitution. Staff and students are encouraged to commemorate the signing of the Constitution by engaging in programs and instruction that bring awareness of the document to all our constituents.
