Dr. Bruce W. Jeter, Acting Director
Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schoools/DoDDS-Cuba (DDESS/DoDDS-Cuba)
Jeter began his teaching career as a health and physical education teacher and coach in 1979 at Westover Jr. High School in Fayetteville, N.C. Since then he has served as a health and physical education teacher in grades kindergarten through twelve. He taught both math and science at the junior high level and coached on the junior and high school level.
Jeter entered school administration in 1990 when he worked for the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. He joined the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) in 1992, when he became assistant principal at Irwin Middle School, at Fort Bragg, N.C. He served as principal of several DDESS schools, as an assistant superintendent and as an acting superintendent. In 2000, Jeter was named superintendent of the DoDDS-Korea schools. He was named superintendent of the New York/Virginia/Puerto Rico District in 2004. He became the DDESS/DoDDS-Cuba Deputy Director in 2007.
Throughout his career, Jeter has distinguished himself as a strong instructional leader who has had great success in establishing collaborative relationships and creating a climate of open communication among all stakeholder groups. He has a deep commitment to and understanding of the military communities we serve. He possesses a wide range of extremely valuable professional development and career experiences.
Jeter earned his bachelor's degree from Pembroke State University, Pembroke, N.C., his master's degree in education from Campbell University, Buies Creek, N.C., his Certificate of Advanced Study from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and his Doctorate in Education in 1991 from Campbell University. He graduated from the Principal's Executive Program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed the Executive Potential Program offered through the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He attended the Harvard Institute for School Leadership's Summer Institute on Leadership and Teaching for High Standards and also completed the Federal Executive Institute.
Jeter and his wife, Linda, traveled as military dependents during their fathers' careers and have learned to appreciate the many challenges military children and their educators face. They have two children - daughter Lindsay is a teacher and son Jamison is a college student.
