Mr. Charlie Toth

Charlie Toth

As the Principal Deputy Director and Associate Director for Education for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA), Mr. Charles Toth is responsible for the instructional and educational programs for DoDEA's 192 schools located throughout the world. He also oversees personnel operations involving more than 13,000 DoDEA employees who support military families overseas and in the United States and her territories.

With nearly 39 years' experience in education, Toth has served in DoDEA schools for 28 years. Mr. Toth served as Acting Associate Director for Education and Principal Deputy Director from June 2008. In October 2007, he was selected as the Assistant Associate Director for Education. As the Assistant Associate Director for Education, Toth provided leadership in planning, executing, and evaluating the effectiveness of DoDEA's core programs in education, assessment, research and evaluation, procurement, budgeting, and professional development.

Prior to coming to the headquarters operation, Mr. Toth served as the District Superintendent for the Korea District where he was the chief instructional leader for schools on the Korean Peninsula since 2004. Prior to that, he was the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction for DoDEA's Bavaria District Schools in Kitzingen, Germany. Toth spent several years as a high school principal at Wuerzburg High School in Germany and Alconbury High School in England and as an assistant principal at Lakenheath High School, Lakenheath, England, Frankfurt Middle School and Frankfurt High School in Frankfurt, Germany. He also taught in Germany at Frankfurt High School, Giessen High School, Bitburg High School and Osterholz High School.

Prior to his career with DoDEA schools, Toth taught at Chesterville Junior High School in Sparta, Ohio, and at Valley High School and Magnolia High School in Wetzel County, West Virginia.

Toth, a native of Morgantown, WV, received his Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from National Louis University in 1991. He is a 1966 graduate of West Virginia University where he received his Bachelor's Degree in physical education. Mr. Toth has been active in several professional organizations including serving as president of the Germany Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa. He is a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. He is past president of the International Chapter of the National Association of Secondary School Principals and the Federal Managers Association.

DoDEA plans, directs, coordinates, and manages pre-kindergarten - 12th grade education programs for Department of Defense (DoD) dependents who would otherwise not have access to a high-quality public education. DoDEA schools are located in Europe, the Pacific, the United States, Cuba, Guam, and Puerto Rico. DoDEA also provides support and resources to Local Education Activities throughout the U.S. that serve children of military families.
