Convince Me
Your class is going to engage in a project called “Convince Me”. Your job is to convince the other students in your class to buy a book that you think is absolutely wonderful. Each of your classmates will be given play money in the amount of $30.00. Your class will listen to everyone’s “Convince Me” presentation. Your job is to create such a wonderful book presentation that everyone in the class will want to buy the book you recommend.
After listening to everyone’s presentation, each person will have to spend their $30.00 by purchasing books they thought were interesting. Students may not buy the same book they are advocating. Your book talk must be enhanced with one of the following: a poster, a hypermedia presentation, music, dance, or a special guest appearance. Your presentation may not last longer than 5 minutes, but must be longer than 2 minutes. You may use note cards to assist you with your presentation.
Here is what you will need to do:
Choose a favorite book. Think about one that might not be known by all students. Make a list of things that make this book so wonderful. Use words that create a positive reaction by the audience.
Write and rehearse your presentation. Summarize your written presentation on note cards that you can use during the presentation. You may not read your presentation. Think about the power of pictures, dance, music, a jingle, or having special guest appearances.
Think about a way to engage your classmates in your presentation. (When your presentation is interactive, you will get your audience to remember your book.)
Note: For submission to DoDEA on commentaries on student work please include written and video presentation of “Convince Me.”
