E 1c.2-Literature:

By the end of the year, we expect third graders to:

·        read multiple books by the same author and be able to identify differences and similarities among them.

E1b.4-Comprehension:

By the end of the year, we expect third graders to:

·        compare one text to another text they have read or heard.

E1c.3-Discussing Books

By the end of the year, we expect third graders to:

·        note and talk about author’s craft; word choice; beginning and endings; plot; and character development;

·        use comparisons and analogies to explain ideas.

 

The Task:

Author Study

 

Read four books by your favorite author.

 

Use a graphic organizer, Kidspiration/Inspiration software, or Excel to show the similarities and differences among the books you have read. Some of the things that you might want to compare and contrast are the main characters, the theme, the setting, and the plot.

 

Use this information to prepare a short summary of your findings. Include with your summary one way you were able to connect with a character or event in the story. Be prepared to share your information with others.
