Performance Task

6-4 final

Standard(s):

E2a    The student produces a report that:

E2a.1  engages the reader by establishing a context, creating a persona, and otherwise developing reader interest

E2a.2  develops a controlling idea that conveys a perspective on the subject

E2a.3  creates an organizing structure appropriate to a specific purpose, audience and context

E2a.4  includes appropriate facts and details

E2a 6  uses a range of appropriate strategies, such as providing facts and details, describing or analyzing the subject, and narrating a relevant anecdote

E2a.7  provides a sense of closure to the writing

The Task:

     We all have memories of special times in our lives.  We remember certain days more than others because of who we were with, what we did, or what we learned. Select one day within the past year that was a special day for you.  Think about why that day was special—what happened, who were you with, what did you learn?  Try to remember specific details, such as the weather, the season, and the sights, smell and colors.

     Write a description of your special day for your school’s annual.   Make sure you include details that will help your reader imagine your feelings at that time.  Use “show” rather than “tell” writing to help your reader picture the day and to understand why the day remains a special memory.

     You’ll complete the writing over a three day period.  You can brainstorm ideas with your classmates on day one by jotting down notes, creating lists, drawing a mind map, or using another graphic organizer to help you generate and organize your thoughts.  You’ll write a draft on your own the second day, and will complete a final copy on day three.  Your final copy should be well-organized and free of spelling and grammatical errors.

Note:  For submission to DoDEA for written commentary on student work, submit the draft and final copy.
