Objectives
  1. Demonstrate how the lymphatic system is directly related to the cardiovascular system.
  2. Describe the composition of lymph and explain how it is formed and transorted through the lymphatic vessels.
  3. Describe the functions of the lymph nodes, tonsils, the thymus, Peyer's patches, and the spleen.
  4. Know the location of the lymphoid organs.
  5. Analyze the importance of homeostasis for living things.
  6. Explain the feedback mechanism controlling homeostasis.
Materials and Activities
Materials
  1. posterboard/cardboard
  2. glue
  3. cutouts of the human body and the lymphoid organs and nodes
  4. colored markers 
  5. index cards
Activities  
Engage
  1. How many students have had their tonsils or spleen removed?
  2. What system do these organs belong to?
  3. What is the overall purpose of these types of organs?
Explore
  1. Divide into small groups.
  2. Using the items in the material list (with the exception of the index cards), create a game board that connect the lymphoid nodes and organs together. Design your rules to the game.
  3. Using your textbook and other resources, the group must come up with 50 questions related to the lymphatic system with the correct answers. Use the index cards to write the questions and answers. 
Explain
  1. Game boards will be interchanged between groups.
  2. Students will us the game to learn concepts and definitions in their own way.
  3. Review and repetition
  4. The best game will receive 5 points add to their next quiz.
Elaborate Divide the class into two groups and have a quiz bowl as a review for a quiz or final.
Evaluation
  1. Oral examination of student knowledge prior to written assessment for the teacher.
  2. Student assessment of what they need to know.
