| Engage | Ask students to close eyes and imagine biting into a lemon. Discuss any reactions. |
| Explore | Have students work in lab groups to test different areas of the tongue with different foods. "Which areas respond more to which tastes?" |
| Explain | Discuss results. Direct questions such as "what is the stimuli?", " what are the differences between chemorectors and other nerve endings?" |
| Elaborate | Students discuss and agree to a test that will determine taste regions on the tongue being consistent and using the same variables. |
| Evaluation | Each student will use lab results to fill in a copy of the tongue labeling the correct taste areas. |
| Homework | Students will write a one page reaction paper (SIP-writing across the curriculum) to the topic "why is taste important"! |
Teacher notes/reminders: This activity allows students to test and map
