| Engage | What is the process of digestion and where does your burrito start being digested? |
| Explore | Distribute cut outs of digestive and accessory organs (with pictures and names) and ask students to put them in order by how they work in the digestive system. Cut outs should include mouth, teeth, tongue, salivary glands, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, pancreas, liver, gall bladder, large intestine, anus. |
| Explain | Discuss results from Explore. What was frustrating?
Discuss burrito components: carbohydrates - tortillas, beans, vegetablesQuestion: Which nutrients are digested first? Hint: Think from simple molecules to more complex. |
| Elaborate | Using a model, either a 3-D or CD-ROM simulation, place digestive organs in order. |
| Evaluation | Check for understanding by using index cards and again asking the question from the Engage What is the process of digestion? |
