Professional Organizations

Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) is an international, nonprofit, nonpartisan education association committed to the mission of forging covenants in teaching and learning for the success of all learners. Founded in 1943, ASCD provides professional development in curriculum and supervision; encourages research, evaluation, and theory development; and disseminates information on education issues ranging from inclusion to parent involvement, learning styles to school leadership.
The National Staff Development Council (NSDC) is a national non-profit association of about 8,000 educators. NSDC is deeply committed to ensuring
success for all students by applying high standards for professional development for everyone who affects student learning. The Council views high-quality staff
development programs as essential to creating schools in which all students and staff members are learners who continually improve their performance.

Periodicals

Journal of Staff Development, NSDC's quarterly professional magazine on leadership and learning. Articles are written primarily by practitioners who bring a real world attitude to the
challenges of school improvement and organizational change. Upcoming issues will focus on technology, evaluating staff development and supporting change through staff development. The JSD is a must-have publication for any educator who believes improving staff learning is part of his or her job. Published four times a year.

Results - Promotes high levels of learning for all students and staff. Each issue of Results includes:

Tools for Schools - The only newsletter of its kind. Tools for Schools supports student and staff learning through school improvement. Each issue of Tools:

  • Features timeless "tools'' and resources that can be used in school improvement
    efforts now and in years to come.
  • Dr. Developer who is on call to answer school improvement questions from readers.

Published every other month during the school year.

Educational Leadership is intended primarily for leaders in elementary, middle, and secondary education but is also for anyone interested in curriculum, instruction, supervision, and leadership in schools. The 96-page, full-color magazine is published monthly September through May except bi-monthly December/January. Subscriptions are included in ASCD membership. Stand-alone subscriptions are also
available for $36 a year.
