ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA — January 18, 2006 — The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) encourages students, parents, teachers, and principals to assist the Department of Education in identifying outstanding classroom teachers for the American Stars of Teaching program.
The U.S. Department of Education is asking for nominations as they continue to focus attention on exemplary classroom teachers who are successful in using innovative teaching strategies and raising student academic achievement for all of their students by recognizing them as American Stars of Teaching. These teachers will be highlighted as representatives of the thousands of teachers who are making a difference in the lives of their students. The next group of American Stars of Teaching will be identified in each state, the DoDEA, and the District of Columbia and will represent all grade levels and disciplines. Officials from the U.S. Department of Education will visit the classes of each American Star of Teaching to congratulate them on their success.
To assist us in this effort, DoDEA encourages members of our community to voluntarily nominate a teacher who you believe is truly making a difference and provide the following information. Please be sure to include the principal's name and email address so that the selection committee will contact the principals of potential candidates to obtain additional information - excluding this information will result in disqualification of the nominee - it would be in candidate's best interest for the person making the nomination to inform the principal of this process. To obtain an American Stars of Teaching Nomination Form, please visit the US Department of Education web site.
