Ansbach High School’s 9th JROTC Battalion will represent DoDEA Europe at the 70th Anniversary of D-Day
Ansbach High School’s 9th JROTC Battalion will represent DoDEA Europe at the 70th Anniversary of D-Day commemoration in Normandy, France this week. The unit, with 36 cadets, will join 50 other JROTC Battalions representing every state in the nation.
This effort was spearheaded by Major Madonna Roberts, JROTC instructor at Ansbach HS. This endeavor was heavily supported by fund raisers from the local VFW, American Legion and Ansbach and Illesheim Spouses' Clubs.
Each cadet will be wearing a ribbon (or dog tag) to honor an individual service member (living or deceased) who took part in the invasion. The cadets have researched the service member and will present his or her story to the battalion.
Among the events, the cadets will be marching in the parade at Sainte Mere Eglise. They will also be participating in ceremonies at the St James Cemetery and the American Cemetery.
