Vicenza MS Student Proceeds to Semifinals in the National Spelling Bee!

May 30, 2013 — Anuk Dayaprema, an 8th grade student from Vicenza Middle School and the Europe PTA/DoDDS representative to the Scripts Belling Bee is among 42 semi- finalists who will compete in the next level of the completion today in Washington. Anuk is the son of MSG Ganege Dayaprema and Mrs. Gamaralalage Dayaprema, assigned to US AFRICOM - 528th SB ALE 2nd USAFRC.

Anuk was recently selected to attend the Junior Leadership Seminar in Germany and has been accepted into Stanford University's Education Program for Gifted Youth. He enjoys swimming, tennis, running, scouting, anatomy and physiology, and would like to pursue a career as a neurosurgeon. Anuk serves on his school's student council, placed first in the Mediterranean District of Mathcounts, and is fluent in Sinhalese. His role model is retired U.S. Special Operations Commanding General Bryan "Doug" Brown, who has been a powerful influence in Anuk's life. Anuk is the three-time defending champion of the U.S. Department of Defense Europe Spelling Bee. This is his third trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
